Barcelona Identify Benfica Striker Vangelis Pavlidis as Alternative to Julián Álvarez

Barcelona are exploring alternative striker options following Robert Lewandowski’s reported move to Chicago Fire, with Benfica forward Vangelis Pavlidis emerging as a potential target.

The Catalan club’s top priority remains Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, but the Spanish side are reluctant to let him leave.

Another reported target, Eli Junior Kroupi, has suffered an injury that could complicate any potential transfer, while the future of Ferran Torres also remains uncertain amid speculation over a possible exit.

Pavlidis has now emerged as a strong alternative. The Greek international has impressed with his consistent goalscoring form and all-round attacking play, earning further recognition after scoring a hat-trick against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

According to reports in Spain and Portugal, Barcelona have added the Benfica striker to a shortlist that also includes João Pedro and Dušan Vlahović.

Despite Barcelona’s interest, Benfica are reportedly unwilling to sell one of their key attacking players. Although the arrival of Jhon Durán on loan has sparked speculation that Pavlidis could depart, Portuguese reports suggest the club intend to keep the Greek forward.
Instead, Benfica are believed to be more open to selling forward Franjo Ivanović if they decide to part with an attacker during the transfer window.
