Air Peace Launches Lagos–São Paulo Flight, Following Tinubu’s Aviation Deal with Brazil

​In a landmark achievement for Nigerian aviation, Air Peace has initiated a direct São Paulo–Lagos flight, transporting members of Nigeria’s official delegation and private-sector leaders from Brazil.

This inaugural flight follows a historic aviation agreement signed in Brasília, with the Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu as a key witness.

​The significance of this development was underscored by a statement and a video shared on X by the official handle of the Presidency of Nigeria.

As highlighted by the Presidency, the flight serves as a clear demonstration of the ability of “Nigerian carriers to compete on global routes, and that Nigeria’s partnerships deliver immediate, tangible results.”

​The new agreement paves the way for two Nigerian carriers, Air Peace and Caverton, to commence passenger and cargo services, respectively, on the Lagos–São Paulo route in the last quarter of 2025.

This demonstration flight, therefore, signals Nigeria’s readiness to operationalize the new corridor and showcases the capacity of Nigerian private enterprises to translate government agreements into concrete action.

​Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, emphasized the immense benefits of the direct flights, noting that “a journey that previously took nearly 20 hours through Europe or the Middle East will now be significantly shortened with direct flights operated by Air Peace.

” He also revealed that Air Peace has placed an order for 21 Embraer jets from Brazil, further solidifying aviation and trade ties between the two nations.
​Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, commended President Tinubu and other government officials for their role in facilitating this milestone. “The President has opened the door of the future for Nigeria. Instead of committing two days to travel to Brazil, we now have direct access to South America’s largest economy, just as Nigeria leads in Africa. We need each other, and this partnership will bring immense opportunities.” he stated.

​The Lagos–São Paulo route is poised to significantly boost trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Brazil.

It is a key component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to open new markets, strengthen South–South cooperation, and create new opportunities for Nigerian businesses and travelers.
