Government Urged to Prioritize Women’s Empowerment for National Development

The Nigerian government has been urged to prioritize women’s empowerment to facilitate their active and meaningful participation in national development.

This appeal was made by Dr. Christiana Okenla, the newly elected President of the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, during her investiture ceremony in Lagos.

Dr. Okenla emphasized the readiness and capacity of Nigerian women to contribute significantly, given the necessary support and opportunities.

She stated, “I believe it’s clear that women are here to make an impact. What we need from the government is support in creating sustainable programs that empower women and amplify their voices. We are grateful for the government’s past support and urge them to continue supporting us.”

Dr. Okenla pledged to champion initiatives promoting women’s self-reliance and empowerment during her tenure.

She said that her administration will align with Rotary International’s Seven Areas of Focus, including peacebuilding, maternal and child health, basic education, environmental sustainability, and economic development.

“By focusing on these areas. We aim to create lasting, positive change in our communities and beyond.” She highlighted.

The well-attended investiture ceremony in Lagos marked Dr. Okenla’s historic appointment as the seventh president and third female president of the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden.

Attendees included prominent figures from various sectors, reflecting the significance of the event.

The ceremony featured the ceremonial exchange of the presidential mantle and included fundraising activities, speeches, awards, and cultural performances celebrating service and leadership.

Dignitaries praised Dr. Okenla’s leadership qualities and expressed confidence in her vision and ability to lead with impact.
