Boeing Seeks Permanent Replacements for Striking Workers

An aerospace company, Boeing has begun a recruitment drive to find “permanent” manufacturing workers to replace union employees who walked off the job last month in Missouri and Illinois.
The company plans to post job listings and hold a job fair on September 16, according to an internal email from Boeing Vice President Dan Gillian.
“The move is the next step in our contingency plan,” Gillian said, citing a lack of progress in negotiations.
About 3,200 members of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace walked off the job on August 4 after rejecting a contract offer.
While Boeing claims it has maintained its production pace despite the strike, the company says it’s now taking more drastic action.
“The union continues to demand more of everything,” Gillian said, “driving the parties further apart.”
The union, meanwhile, said on X (formerly Twitter) that it wants more than just “minor adjustments” to pay and benefits.
They claim Boeing’s offer is unacceptable to their members.
The union has not yet responded to requests for comment on Boeing’s plan to hire replacements.
