NUPENG Reopens Depots After Deal With Dangote Refinery

Fuel loading has resumed after the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Dangote Petroleum Refinery reached an agreement.

The union had shut depots and filling stations nationwide for two days, protesting Dangote’s alleged refusal to allow drivers of its 4,000 CNG-powered trucks to join trade unions.

Following mediation by the Department of State Services, Dangote management agreed to allow unionisation in line with labour laws.

Both parties resolved that the process would begin immediately and be completed by September 22, with assurances that no employee would face victimisation.

NUPENG President, Williams Akporeha, confirmed that depots and facilities have reopened, while the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) also suspended its strike.

PETROAN President, Billy Gillis-Harry, said members have resumed dispensing nationwide, restoring normalcy to fuel supply.
