FAAN Boss Advocates Stronger Intra-African Air Connectivity at CILT Lecture

The Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has called for improved aviation connectivity across Africa as a pathway to economic growth, trade expansion and regional integration.

Kuku made the call while representing the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, at the 2026 Annual Lecture of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport held in Abuja.

The lecture, themed “Improving Connectivity Within the African Continent,” brought together stakeholders in the transport and logistics sectors to discuss ways of strengthening regional air links and modernising aviation systems across Africa.

Speaking at the event, Kuku described aviation as a major driver of Africa’s economic transformation.

“It is both a privilege and a duty to address a topic that lies at the core of Africa’s economic future,” she said.

‎She noted that the continent’s full economic potential can only be achieved through stronger connectivity among its people, industries and markets.

‎“This potential can only be realised when our people, markets, industries and ideas are connected efficiently, affordably and sustainably,” Kuku stated.

‎The FAAN boss further stressed the importance of seamless air transport in boosting trade, mobility and regional development across the continent.

During an interactive session, she also addressed concerns surrounding aviation infrastructure, technological advancement, manpower development and strategies to improve air connectivity within Africa and beyond.

At the event, both Keyamo and Kuku were recognised for their contributions to the transformation of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
