AY Questions Church’s Role After Being Dropped From Church Programme

‎Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has raised concerns about the role of the church after disclosing that he was removed from participating in a church programme due to concerns about how the public might perceive his involvement.

‎Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, the entertainer revealed that he temporarily withdrew from church activities during a difficult period in his life, stressing that his absence was not a result of losing faith in God but because he was struggling with negative narratives circulating about him.

‎AY said he later found a new place of worship where he was warmly welcomed by the pastor, the pastor’s family and other church leaders.

According to him, he was initially invited to participate in one of the church’s forthcoming programmes before the invitation was later withdrawn following internal deliberations.

‎He recalled being informed that concerns over public perception influenced the decision.

‎”I respected the decision, but I left with a question. When did public opinion become stronger than one’s relationship with the altar and faith?” he said.

‎Reflecting on the incident, the comedian argued that the church should remain a place of grace, truth and restoration, regardless of the accusations or opinions surrounding an individual.

‎Reaffirming his Christian faith, AY referenced Jesus‘ call to those seeking hope and healing.

‎”He didn’t say, ‘Come after everyone has accepted your story.’ He said, ‘Come.’ No matter what you’re going through, just come. Even the Bible says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God,” he added.
