Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero following Ronald Araujo’s imminent loan transfer to Liverpool.

Araujo has reportedly agreed to join Liverpool for the upcoming season, with the deal expected to include an option for the Premier League club to sign him permanently.

His departure has forced Barcelona to reconsider their defensive plans, with Romero emerging as one of their leading targets, according to SPORT.

The Argentine defender has long been admired by Barcelona for his aggressive style, experience and competitive mentality. At 28, he could provide leadership alongside young defender Pau Cubarsi.

However, Barcelona face competition from Atletico Madrid, who have reportedly made progress in their efforts to sign Romero. Inter Milan have also shown interest in the Tottenham star.

Financial concerns could make a loan deal Barcelona’s preferred option.

Aymeric Laporte is another defender on Barcelona’s shortlist, while Hansi Flick still has options such as Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Gerard Martin available.

Araujo’s expected departure could also free up salary space, potentially making it easier for Barcelona to pursue a new centre-back before the transfer window closes.
