Osun Election 2026: INEC Declares Adeleke Winner with 511,067 Votes
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 governorship election after he polled 511,067 votes to secure a second term.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
Najeem Salaam, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), finished third with 17,180 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji in the election held across Osun State on Saturday, August 15.
Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs
Results from the 30 local government areas showed that Adeleke won 19 LGAs, while Oyebamiji secured 11.
The final result was announced on Sunday by the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, after the completion of collation.
Ogunwole declared Adeleke elected after stating that he had satisfied the requirements of the law.
According to figures announced during the collation, 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while the total valid votes stood at 985,079.
INEC recorded 1,005,800 votes cast in the election.
Adeleke Secures Second Term
The victory gives Adeleke another four-year mandate as governor of Osun State.
He first became governor following the 2022 governorship election, when he contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defeated then-incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.
His political platform changed ahead of the 2026 contest, with Adeleke seeking re-election under the Accord Party.
The August 15 election therefore represented his first governorship contest on the Accord platform and ultimately returned him to office for a second term.
Oyebamiji, his principal challenger in the 2026 race, had entered the election as the APC candidate.
With the declaration by INEC, Adeleke has now secured another mandate to govern Osun State for the next four years, subject to the constitutional and electoral processes following the poll.
