Federal Ministry of Education Resolves Technical Issue Affecting 2025 WASSCE Results

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the resolution of a technical issue that affected the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
According to the Ministry, the glitch occurred during the post-release processing of results in certain subjects where paper serialisation had been implemented as part of the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) enhanced exam security measures.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Press, Folasade Boriowo, commended WAEC for its swift response, transparency, and professionalism in addressing the problem. She confirmed that updated results will be available on the result-checker portal within the next 24 hours.
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the patience of affected candidates and reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and credibility in all assessment processes.
“This development reinforces the Honorable Minister’s broader education reform agenda, which prioritizes examination integrity across all bodies under the Ministry’s supervision, particularly WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO),” the statement read.
In line with this agenda, both WAEC and NECO are set to commence a phased rollout of Computer-Based Testing (CBT), starting with objective components in November 2026.
“The adoption of CBT is a critical step toward curbing malpractice, preventing question leakages, and restoring public trust in the examination system. It is a necessary reform to ensure that Nigerian students are assessed strictly on merit and that their certificates retain credibility both locally and internationally,” the statement added.
Boriowo further quoted the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu Alausa, as emphasizing that safeguarding the integrity of examinations is non-negotiable.
“Upholding high standards protects the future of our young people and sustains Nigeria’s global reputation,” Dr. Alausa stated.
