FG Shuts Down Illegal Colleges of Education

​As part of the efforts to sanitize the education sector in Nigeria, the National Commission for Colleges of Education NCCE has shut down 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across the country.

This action was part of a recent crackdown on unapproved tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

In addition to shutting down the illegal institutions, the NCCE also conducted a personnel audit and financial monitoring in all 21 federal colleges of education.

​This move aligns with a recent directive from President Bola Tinubu, who urged the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the NCCE to take decisive action against what he called “certificate millers” undermining the credibility of the country’s education sector.

The Director of University Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Rakiya Ilyasu reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening the integration of all educational agencies to enhance quality and efficiency.

​”The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the National Universities Commission, the National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education are working in alignment to improve the quality of education and ensure that cases of forgery and unrecognised institutions both within and outside the country have no place in our education ecosystem,” she stated.
