AMVCA 2026 Celebrates African Film Excellence as Top Stars, Filmmakers Shine

The 2026 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) ended in grand style in Lagos as filmmakers, actors and digital creators from across Africa gathered to celebrate outstanding achievements in film and television.
The prestigious event, regarded as one of Africa’s biggest entertainment platforms, attracted major industry figures, celebrities and creatives who lit up the night with fashion, performances and recognition of cinematic excellence.
One of the biggest winners of the night was “My Father’s Shadow,” which dominated key categories, taking home awards for Best Movie, Best Director and Best Writing in a Movie.
Other productions including “Colours of Fire,” “To Kill a Monkey” and “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born” also recorded notable victories, reflecting the growing quality and global appeal of African storytelling.
Speaking after receiving their awards, several winners appreciated fans, colleagues and organisers for supporting the growth of the continent’s entertainment industry.
Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo described his recognition as a reflection of years of dedication and consistency in Nollywood.
“This honour means a lot to me. It is a reward for hard work, resilience and commitment to the industry over the years,” he said.
Award-winning actress Linda Ejiofor, who emerged as Best Lead Actress for her role in “The Serpent’s Gift,” also expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting that the award would inspire her to do more.
Actor Uzor Arukwe secured the Best Lead Actor award for his performance in “Colours of Fire,” while Uche Montana received the Trailblazer Award in recognition of her rising influence in the industry.
The ceremony also honoured veteran actress Sola Sobowale with the Industry Merit Award for her contribution to African cinema.
Industry observers say this year’s edition further highlighted the increasing influence of African films and television productions on the international entertainment scene, especially with the rise of streaming platforms and digital content creation.

Best Lead Actress — “The Serpent’s Gift” (Linda Ejiofor)
Best Lead Actor — “Colours of Fire” (Uzor Arukwe)
Trailblazer Award — Uche Montana
Industry Merit Award — Sola Sobowale
Industry Recognition Award — Kanayo O. Kanayo.
