Spain Beat Argentina to Win 2026 FIFA World Cup

Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA World Cup title after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in extra time in a gripping final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, on Sunday.
The victory secured Spain’s second World Cup crown, adding to their maiden triumph in 2010, and completed an impressive run that also saw them capture the UEFA European Championship.
The decisive moment came in the 106th minute when Ferran Torres fired home from close range after Nico Williams headed Pedro Porro’s cross into his path, ending a tense contest that had remained goalless throughout regulation time.
Spain controlled much of the final and created the better scoring opportunities, while Argentina struggled to impose themselves in attack, failing to register a shot on target over 120 minutes.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi, playing what is widely expected to be his final World Cup match, was unable to inspire his side to a successful title defence as Spain’s midfield and defence limited his influence throughout the encounter.
The South Americans’ frustrations grew late in the game when midfielder Enzo Fernández was shown a red card in stoppage time for a dangerous challenge, reducing Argentina to ten men before extra time.
