Brock Lesnar Announces Retirement After SummerSlam Loss to Nigeria’s Oba Femi
WWE and UFC icon Brock Lesnar has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling after suffering a second consecutive defeat to Nigerian-born WWE star Oba Femi at SummerSlam 2026.
The 49-year-old made the announcement during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, revealing that his Hell in a Cell clash against Oba Femi, which took place in his home state of Minnesota, marked the final match of his legendary career.
Reflecting on the emotional occasion, Lesnar thanked fans who had supported him throughout his remarkable journey in professional wrestling and mixed martial arts.
“Saturday was a very emotional day for me. I’m here to let the world know that I am retired, and I just want to say thank you to everybody,” Lesnar said.
The former WWE and UFC heavyweight champion disclosed that he had seriously considered walking away from the ring after losing to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 42 earlier this year.
According to Lesnar, that defeat made him question whether he could continue competing at the highest level. However, he decided to accept a rematch at SummerSlam because he believed he still had one final challenge left in him.
Despite his determination, Oba Femi once again emerged victorious, convincing the wrestling legend that it was the right moment to end his in-ring career.
“When Oba Femi slammed me at WrestleMania, I thought, ‘I can’t do this again.’ I still felt I had some fuel left in the tank, but after this, that’s it for me inside the squared circle,” he said.
Lesnar retires as one of the most accomplished figures in combat sports history. During a career spanning more than two decades, he captured multiple WWE world championships and also held the UFC heavyweight title, cementing his reputation as one of the most dominant athletes to compete in both promotions.
For Oba Femi, the victory represents another milestone in his rapid rise within WWE. The Lagos-born superstar has now defeated Lesnar twice, maintaining a perfect record against the wrestling legend and further strengthening his status as one of WWE’s fastest-rising stars.
As of the time of filing this report, WWE has not issued an official statement regarding Lesnar’s retirement or whether the former champion will remain involved with the company in a non-wrestling capacity.
