Dangote Refinery Acquires CNG Trucks for Nationwide Fuel Distribution

Dangote Refinery has begun receiving its first shipment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, which are part of a larger plan to distribute fuel across Nigeria starting on August 15, 2025.

This initiative is a major step for the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery as it prepares to supply premium motor spirit (petrol) and automotive gas oil (diesel) nationwide.

The refinery’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, announced that the company is investing an estimated N720 billion to acquire a fleet of 4,000 CNG-powered trucks and related infrastructure.

“The first batch of trucks arrived at Apapa Port and was officially received at the refinery site in Ibeju-Lekki by Devakumar Edwin, the Vice-President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Ltd.” he stated.

While the refinery believes this distribution scheme will create a major shift in the country’s downstream oil and gas sector and save Nigerians over N1.7 trillion annually in distribution costs, it has faced some opposition.

Certain petroleum product retail outlet owners and the Natural Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria have voiced concerns that the new system could lead to significant job losses.
